Over the Hedge 8

Back to some more exploratory drawings of Vincent. The hard
part of designing anything for CG is that up until now characters
are modeled symmetrically. Since most things in nature are more or less
asymmetrical as a default, the fact that the designer can't rely on this
makes it very hard to achieve appeal in a neutral pose. However, I don't
think one should worry much about this in the exploratory phase. I sure
didn't....

appealing indeed. The subtle difference in the curves on his muzzle and the eyebrows work really well. Sweet!

He's awesome! Love the excess amount of skin, that makes him real bear-like. Great design and great expression.

Damn straight! You should never be too concerned about symmetry, at least not at first. Besides, that's why they pay those modelers the "big bucks" =)

I love these drawings. The shapes are great and the expression is wonderful. Bears are such a great subject, I love to see how talented people come up with designs inspired by them.

Thanks for sharing!

a.riabovitchev, thank you!
Both Verne and Hammy was largely designed my Nico Martlet. I did a few touch-ups on Hammy's face later on. If I find them I might post them.
