Hiccup, meet Hiccup!

Here's a little drawing I made for Cressida Cowell, the writer of "How To Train Your Dragon", the book.
Although our film differs quite a lot from her book, she assures us all that she's perfectly fine with that.
They are two very different animals, but with the same heart, so to speak.
I was very fortunate to Supervise the animation on Hiccup, and while I'm still
far too close to it I feel that Cressida's Hiccup and our Hiccup somehow inhabit the same soul.
I hope fans of the book feel the same. The film opens this weekend. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it!

  1. Dragon looks amazing from what I've seen so far. I know it went through a few incarnations, but it seems like all the ingredients worked out in the end to create magic. The Astro Boy stuff below is great too. Thanks for posting.

  7. Ha! Funny. As a budding animator, Dragon was just awe inspiring. Stellar job to you and your team.

ANy chance you'll be at SDCC this year or maybe CTN-X in November?

  8. Thanks everyone!
I'm very glad you all enjoyed the film, as well.

Adam- Not sure about either SDCC or CTN-X. I tend to avoid such gatherings normally, but who knows....:)

Please can you tell me who did the drawings in the end credits of the dragons? The sketched ones. Thanks in anticipation!

  10. Maggie-With the exception of a few of the Toothless drawings by Simon Otto, they are all done by our fantastic character designer Nico Marlet. Here's a link to a little compilation of his work on YouTube:

If you get the making off book it's wall to wall Nico!...
